Your Guide to #ActivateUptown

Join us tomorrow, Saturday, October 1st for the biggest block party Uptown has ever seen!

We're kicking off #ActivateUptown with an opening ceremony at 10:00 a.m. in front of Fire Station 12, located on the corner of Artesia Bouelvard and Orange Avenue, followed by a bike ride down Artesia. We invite you to bring your bike and join us!

#ActivateUptown will feature three stages of live music, two beer & wine gardens, a live mural installation, sidewalk chalk art, two Children's Zones, a celebrity basketball game, a slam dunk contest, a classic 50’s car display, a custom Harley motorcycle display, food, free activities, giveaways, and more!

Below you will find more details about parking and transportation, the stage set times for Village Fest, the Uptown Rock & Soul Stage, and the New Blue Stage, as well as the schedule for the all-day Street Hoops Showcase.

For those attending Village Fest, please feel free to bring low chairs, and blankets to sit on, however canopies and gazebos will not be permitted.


For local residents attending #ActivateUptown, we encourage you to bike, walk, or utilize any other means of active transportation available. There will be a free bike valet at Artesia Blvd. and Lime Ave. where you can safely store your bike while you walk around and enjoy the festivities. 

Live too far to walk or bike? We encourage you to Uber or Lyft. Uber/Lyft drop-off zone is located at 700 E. Artesia Blvd. Long Beach, CA 90805

Still wish to drive to the event? There will not be designated event parking. Artesia Boulevard will be closed to vehicular traffic to both West and Eastbound traffic from Atlantic to Orange Avenue. Parking is available at regularly permitted locations, except where posted otherwise. It is your responsibility to obey posted restrictions and park legally.   

Not planning on bringing a bike? You can still ride the route! There will be FREE bikes available to use throughout the event through the Bike Share Program. 

Village Fest at #ActivateUptown Lineup! SURPRISE PERFORMANCE: TALIB KWELI!

Village Fest is a FREE concert, benefiting the North Long Beach Education Fund. The concert will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., on the corner of Artesia Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue, with live music, activities, food, beer garden and more. The event will also include a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) midway, which will showcase event sponsors who are champions of those industries.


Village Fest is sponsored by the Office of Vice Mayor Rex RichardsonPort of Long Beach, Tesoro, Urban Commons, Waste Management, Molina Healthcare, Fusion Storm, and the CSULB College of Engineering, and is produced by Emissary Media Group.

Music Set Times for the Uptown Rock & Soul Stage and the New Blues Stage

The Uptown Rock & Soul Stage will be located near the corner of Artesia Boulevard and California Avenue, and will showcase an eclectic mix of Indie Rock, Funk, Jazz, and Latin bands.

The New Blues Stage will be located near the corner of Artesia Boulevard and Cerritos Avenue and will showcase the best in local blues bands.

Venice Ball League (VBL) presents Street Hoops Showcase at #ActivateUptown!

This event will feature a free kids basketball clinic, youth basketball tournament, and a community exhibition game featuring the Long Beach Firefighters Association vs. the Southern California African American Fraternity All-Stars. Special headlines include a Slam Dunk Contest and a Celebrity Game.

Street Hoops Showcase will take place near the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Myrtle Avenue.

Full Line Up of Activities Includes:

10 am-12 pm:

  • FREE Kids clinic by VBL MVP and Long Beach resident Tristan Wilson aka King Hustle.
  • Free registration for kids up to 15 years of age
  • Free event T-shirt for participants

12 pm-1 pm:

  • Kids All-star game

1 pm-2 pm:

  • CELEBRITY GAME with VBL all-stars and celebrities

2 pm-3 pm:

  • Slam Dunk contest —> 3 world class dunkers. Myree Bowden, Jumpman Big, & Michael Perty
  • 1st round : 2 dunks each
  • Final : 2 dunks each
  • Hosted by the voice of Venice Beach MouthPiece

3 pm-4 pm:

  • Community exhibition game: Long Beach Fire Fighters Association vs. The Southern California Fraternity League (NPHC)
