Ninth District residents will be glad to know that the Atlantic Avenue Complete Streets project is nearing completion, just a few more weeks. Major construction on crosswalks, especially, is being completed at the key intersection of Artesia and Atlantic and a few others down Atlantic. All of this is the final push on the Atlantic Avenue Complete Streets project, improving the pedestrian environment and directly enhancing the economic attractiveness of the District.
The good news is that Public Works is officially just a bit ahead of schedule.
Below is a schedule of this construction that is scheduled to continue through the month of October. We want to assure you we're doing everything we can to make this as efficient as possible for residents.
The Atlantic Ave decorative crosswalk construction is scheduled at the intersections of: 60th St, Harding St, Villa Park, and Artesia Blvd. Traffic impact will last from 9/22- 10/23.
Construction is divided into three phases - Lane 1, Lane 2 and Finishing Touches
• On Phase 1, the outside lanes will be constructed between 9/24 - 10/7.
• On Phase 2, the inside lanes will be constructed 10/8 - 10/23.
• On Phase 3, the traffic related improvements will be completed by 10/23!
Finishing touches will include loop installation from 10/27-31/14. The striping will be done at night from 11/3-5/14. Lastly, the cleanup will be from 11/6-7/14
We realize all of this is affecting traffic and advise residents to navigate around this project whenever possible for the next 3+ weeks.
And then look forward to the completed project and the next steps in the Uptown Renaissance, including the groundbreaking for the North Library on Saturday, 10/25 and then steps being taken to attract development all along the corridor with these improvements in place.
